I am honoured to be the Guest Editor at the Tuesday Poem hub this week, and since it’s National Flash Fiction Day here in New Zealand on Friday, 22 June 2012, we are posting short short stories alongside poems.
The story I’ve added to the Tuesday Poem site is BOMB by Sian Williams. It’s a wonderful example of flash — in this case a carefully crafted moment in time filling a very short space and packed with memorable details. Please go visit the Tuesday Poem site and enjoy Sian’s story, and then look at the sidebar on the left side of the page where you’ll find other Tuesday Poets:
Janis Freegard * Harvey Malloy * Catherine Bateson * Helen Lowe * Premium T. * Renee Liang * Zireaux * PS Cottier * Susan Landry * Eileen Moeller * Helen McKinley * Kathleen Jones * Catherine Fitchett * Claire Benyon * Sarah Jane Barnett * Andrew Bell * Alicia Ponder * Mary McCallum * Keith Westwater * Tim Jones * Jennifer Compton * Bernadette Keating * Helen Rickerby * Saradha Koirala * Elizabeth Welsh * Orchid Tierney * Belinda Hollyer * Robert Sullivan * Helen Heath * Joanna Preston

And then, if you’re in the mood for more flash, join us for National Flash Fiction Day in Auckland on Friday — where the winning stories of the national competition will be announced and we’ll hear readings from short-listed writers as well as other invited guests. It’s sure to be a lively event and all are welcome. Other NFFD events include gatherings in Wellington, Christchurch and Whangarei and all are listed at the NFFD site.
You can see the Short List from the 2012 NFFD competition here.
